Proverbs 31:10

woman with children

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. (Proverbs 31:10, NIV)

A wife of noble character…

What does it mean to have a “noble character”? Webster defines noble as “possessing outstanding qualities;  grand or impressive especially in appearance.” And Webster defines character as “one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual”. So, putting it together it would be simply someone who is known by their good qualities, e.x. a woman who helps at the church is usually known for helping the church. So how does one get a ’noble character’? Start at home – whether it be as simple as doing the dishes for your sister so she can go play, or making a pie for dessert, or even watching the baby so your mom can take a nap. A little deed can go a long way.  As you progress, volunteer to watch the kids for a family at church so the parents can go out. Help the elderly woman across the road by getting her groceries for her. Anything that shows Christ’s love will do. Someday you’ll be thankful that you helped in that small way. You’ll be worth far more than rubies.
